The Waupaca Middle School Soccer Club is beginning its second season. There are 37, 6th, 7th and 8th grade middle school student athletes participating in the fall soccer program. The program allows these middle school student athletes to be physically active and build their social and soccer skills for high school and beyond.
This year there are two co-ed teams with 14 girls and 23 boys participating. The two teams play in two separate middle school soccer leagues. Waupaca plays other middle schools in the area including Tri-county, Wautoma (two teams), Berlin, Ben Franklin (Stevens Point), Horace Mann (Wausau), Antigo, Nekoosa, Newman Catholic (Wausau), Marshfield and Mosinee. The Waupaca Club will have 14 away games (which includes a tournament at Wautoma) and 9 home games. The season runs from September 6 until October 10. Most games are played on Tuesday or Thursday evenings after school. The teams practice and have their home games at the Waupaca high school soccer practice fields.
The Waupaca Middle School Soccer Club is self-supporting and relies on player, fan and community support through fees, donations and fund raisers. A special thanks goes to the community support and volunteers in making the recent “brat fry” at Neumann’s Piggly Wiggly a huge success.
Bus transportation is used for away games. The coaching staff is made up of volunteers. Mark Polebitski is also the Waupaca High School girls varsity soccer coach, Jeremy Koehler and Greg Petkovsek are Waupaca Kickers soccer coaches, and Jamie Johnson is a former high school soccer player.
